Feed-in Tariff UK – Get paid for your renewable energy

The UK is the 69th country in the world to introduce Feed-in Tariffs. Feed-in Tariffs UK are a Government-backed initiative to encourage homeowners to install solar PV panels on their homes. The Feed-in Tariff UK system operates through an agreement with your energy company whereby you are paid for each unit of renewable electricity you generate. In addition, under the Feed-in Tariff UK scheme, you are also paid an additional amount for each unit of renewable electricity you export into the National Grid.

To work out how much you are likely to earn and save with the Feed-in Tariff UK scheme, try out our solar PV calculator.

In order to be eligible for Feed-in Tariffs UK, your solar panels must be installed by an MCS-accredited installer. If you are interested in taking advantage of the Feed-in Tariff UK scheme, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0116 2987467 or fill in the form on the right to register for a free quote.

Feed-in Tariff UK – How does it work?

If you are eligible for the Feed-in Tariff UK scheme, then you could benefit in several ways:

  • Generation Tariff – this is a set rate you get paid for each unit of electricity you generate. The amount decreases each year after 2012 for new installations, but once you are on the Feed-in-Tariff UK scheme, the rate will remain the same for 25 years.

  • Export Tariff – this is a bonus amount you receive for any electricity you export into the National Grid through the Feed-in Tariffs UK. The Feed-in Tariff UK export rate is the same for all technologies and will equate to around an extra 3p/kWh in addition to the generation tariff part of the Feed-in Tariffs UK.

  • Energy Bill Savings – Using renewable energy in your home means that you don’t need to buy as much from energy companies. This means you can make substantial savings on your annual fuel bill, on top of the money you receive from the UK Feed-in-Tariffs. An average system will reduce your bills by around £100 every year!

For information on current Feed-in Tariff UK rates, see the Solar Calculator.

Feed-in Tariff UK – Am I eligible?

Eligibility for the Feed-in Tariff UK scheme depends on when the solar panels were installed and whether they were installed by an MCS-accredited installer. If you install solar panels now, or did so after April 2010, and the installer was MCS-accredited then you are fully eligible for Feed-in Tariffs UK.

If you had solar panels installed before April 2010, you can find out more about receiving UK Feed-in-Tariffs from the Energy Saving Trust.
